Dean Saunders has incredibly claimed that John Terry’s free transfer is the best signing of the summer so far.
The former England international was released by Chelsea at the end of last season and he has since penned a one-year deal at Villa Park in order to help Steve Bruce’s men achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
Although Romelu Lukaku, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Alexandre Lacazette have all been involved in high profile transfers in the top-flight, Saunders, 53, strangely believes that Villa’s sole piece of transfer activity this summer trumps all of them.
“Forget Lukaku going to United, John Terry to Villa is the signing of the summer,” said the former Villa and Liverpool striker, as quoted by TalkSport host Alan Brazil on his official Sports Breakfast Twitter account on Thursday.

Aston Villa have struggled to make new additions to their squad this summer after the Mirror reported that they are set to operate on a shoestring budget of just £1million in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
That has likely been what has caused the West Midlands outfit to make just the one signing so far in Terry’s free switch from London.
Sky Sports has recently reported that a deal is close for Sam Johnstone to secure a permanent switch back to Villa Park after a relatively successful loan period there in the second half of last season.
