Rangers have accepted a bid for defensive midfielder Matt Crooks, according to Scunthorpe United chairman Peter Swann.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Humberside on the Sports Talk show (Wednesday, 12 July, 6pm), Swann confirmed that the SPL giants have accepted an offer for the 23-year-old enforcer but he revealed it was not a bid from his League One side.

“They have not accepted our bid but I believe they have accepted a bid from another club,” he said. “We have put a deal on the table which is a really good deal for him.

“I think we know him, we know how to look after him and he’d benefit from us. If he’s going to go somewhere for more money, I can completely understand that.”

Fellow League One outfit Northampton Town were mentioned as the another club but Swann refused to confirm whether it was their bid which has been accepted by the SPL side.

Crooks signed for the Glaswegian club at the start of the last season on a free transfer from Accrington Stanley but he endured a difficult debut campaign in Scotland as he missed the opening months due to an injury.

The Englishman only managed to feature in three matches for Rangers and he failed to complete the full 90 minutes in all of them.

Crooks was sent out on loan to Scunthorpe during the January transfer window where he managed to make a significant impact on the team.

The midfielder contributed with three goals and one assists in 12 matches in all competitions and his performances helped guide the team into the playoff places.

Crooks currently has three years remaining on his contract at Ibrox.
