Norwich have emphatically rejected a bid from Middlesbrough for midfielder Jonny Howson, according to HITC Sport.

It is understood that the Canaries are reluctantly willing to listen to offers for their 29-year-old star this summer as they look to raise funds for their own summer business.

This has led to former club Leeds and Premier League side Burnley expressing an interest in the ex-England Under-21 international and it is believed that Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough have now had a bid rejected.

The former Elland Road boss is believed to be a big admirer of Howson and he was also keen to take him back to Leeds before he left the club.

However, the Yorkshire giants’ fan base will be hoping that Howson still makes a sensational return to the club after leaving five years a go instead of joining Monk in the north east.

The Morley-born ace joined the Leeds academy in 1997 before making his debut just nine years later in 2006 aged 18.

He played in 219 appearances for the club, scoring on 27 occasions and helped the side win promotion from League One before leaving for Norwich in the Premier League.

Last season he managed to play in 39 matches in all competitions for the Canaries, scoring six goals alongside providing eight times and they may have placed a large price-tag on the midfielder with two years left on his contract.
