Newcastle are leading the hunt for free agent Jesus Navas after talks with Sevilla have stalled, according to the Mirror.

The 31-year-old right-winger departed Manchester City at the end of the last campaign following the end of his contract and it is stated that he was expected to return to Sevilla, where he previously played between 2000 and 2013.

However, the La Liga club are reported to be refusing to increase their offer of £1.3million a year and he has been told to make a decision on his future by next Sunday.

This situation is said to have alerted Newcastle, who have now pushed forward by putting a proposal to the player’s agent as Rafa Benitez looks to reinforce his squad this summer.

The experienced manager has only been able to add Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu so far this summer following last season’s Championship title winning side.

However, he may look at Spanish compatriot Navas as someone who can bring experience and the qualities necessary to stay within the Premier League.

The 35-time capped Spain international has been playing in England since 2013 after joining Manchester City for a fee of £14.9million.

He has since lit up the Premier League with his pace and in 123 top-flight matches for the cash-rich Manchester club the speed machine returned 25 assists and four goals.
