Manchester United are considering tying Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a new deal so long as he fully recovers from his injury, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that, despite the impending arrival of £75million man Romelu Lukaku, the Reds are keen to keep a hold of the man the Belgian is replacing.

They say that they will look to offer Ibrahimovic a new contract to stay at the club in January if Mourinho feels he needs him, and if he has managed to fully recover from the anterior cruciate ligament damage he suffered towards the end of last season.

The 35-year-old joined up with the Red Devils last season, signing a one-year contract, and had an immediate impact as he hit home four goals in his opening four Premier League games on the way to 17 league goals throughout the season.

He also had a huge impact in United’s Europa League and League Cup success, firing five and four goals in each competition respectively to earn Mourinho a double in his first season at Old Trafford.

The 116-time-capped Swedish international, who has played for the likes of PSG and Inter Milan, is recovering from his injury under the watchful eye of the United staff, and is said to have been so impressed that he will give the club the first choice to sign him when he is fit again.
