A deal which will see Rangers attacker Barrie McKay join English Championship club Nottingham Forest has taken a “massive stride forward,” according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun transfer correspondent has reported via his personal Twitter account on Monday morning that a move that will take the 22-year-old south of the border is progressing well.

McKay featured frequently for ex-manager Mark Warburton at Ibrox, who is of course the current boss at Nottingham Forest and it is felt that the senior man is keen on a reunion.

However, since the appointment of Pedro Caixinha in March the 22-year-old winger has found himself omitted from the team at times and was even ordered to train with the Under-20s squad and was left out of the Gers’ Europa League clash last Thursday.

The Scotland international has also gone into his final year at the Scottish giants and there has not yet been any developments on a new deal, meaning McKay could well be set for an Ibrox exit this summer to avoid losing him on a free next year.

McKay made his debut for Rangers back in 2012 aged just 17 and he was once tipped for big things.

But, after making 140 appearances for the club since with a return of 20 goals and 39 assists in total he may have to settle for a move to England’s second tier next.
