English Championship duo Cardiff and Nottingham Forest are set to start a bidding war for Rangers attacking ace Barrie McKay, according to the Scottish Sun.

The news outlet details that the two second tier clubs are “seriously interested” in the 22-year-old right-winger who has entered the final year of his contract at Ibrox.

It is said that former boss Mark Warburton, who gave McKay his breakthrough at the club is still a big fan of the Gers youth graduate and that the Midlands club have even made an offer, which has fallen short of Rangers’ £750,000 valuation.

Meanwhile, Cardiff are reported to be monitoring the situation of the right-winger in Glasgow after failing in their move for Jonny Hayes earlier in the summer and the Welsh club are “expected” to make a move this week.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is overhauling his side in his first window at the club after a disappointing first season in the Premiership and each of Joe Garner, Andy Halliday, Philippe Senderos and Clint Hill have already departed Ibrox this summer.

Once highly thought of young prospect McKay could now be the next one to head through the exit doors and he was even left out of the Gers’ Europa League squad last Thursday during their win over Luxembourg-based club Progres Niederkorn.
