Brentford hold positive contract talks with Jota

Brentford have held positive talks with wing star Jota despite interest from several Premier League clubs, according to the Bees’ director of football Rasmus Ankersen.

The 26-year-old Spaniard shone in the Championship last season from his right-wing role with a return of 12 goals and five assists in 21 encounters following a disappointing loan spell at Eibar during the first half of the campaign.

His contract at the London-based second tier club is also set to expire next summer and this has seen a number of England’s top-flight club’s linked with him.

London news outlet GetWestLondon names each of Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Burnley specifically to have been reported to be eyeing Jota this summer.

But, Brentford could yet ward off Premier League interest with Ankersen also revealing to GetWestLondon that negotiations with Jota have been successful so far.

“Everyone saw Jota’s level at the end of last season. It’s no surprise that he’s a player that has attracted attention,” told club chief Ankersen.

“I think we’ve done a lot for Jota and he’s done a lot for us. We’ve had positive conversations with him but it’s still too early to see an outcome on that.”

Both Everton and Newcastle are looking to heavily strengthen their team this summer with different targets for next season.

The Toffees are looking to bolster their squad ready for a Europa League campaign and extended fixture list, while the Magpies are eyeing players who can help them achieve Premier League survival.

But, the top-flight duo could be out of luck in bringing in Jota, who could extend his stay at Brentford after making the switch to England in the summer of 2014.
