Arnautovic suffers pre-season injury

|

Stoke attacker Marko Arnautovic could be set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury on Monday, according to Sky.

The popular broadcasters have detailed on their website that the 28-year-old left-winger started the Potters’ pre-season match against Swiss team Neuchatel Xamax on Monday evening.

However, he was forced off the pitch with a suspected knee injury just before half-time after an awkward fall when attempting a cross.

This follows on from Arnautovic handing in a transfer request at Mark Hughes’ club on Monday after West Ham launched a mega £15million bid for him.

It was however rejected and the Hammers were expected to make a further improved offer for the Austrian with three years left on his contract.

But, the east Londoners may now be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere after Arnautovic’s injury.

The left sided attacker has looked highly impressive since making the switch to England from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen for a fee of just £2million in the summer of 2013.

In total he has managed a return of 26 goals and 32 assists from 145 appearances for Stoke during his four years and last season he managed seven goals and six assists in 35 matches in all competitions.

West Ham themselves have been on the lookout for more firepower this summer and they will be hoping that Arnautovic’s injury is not too serious with the attacker seemingly wanting a move to the London Stadium.
