Tottenham must move quickly to hijack Marseille’s attempts to sign Celtic forward Moussa Dembele.

Sky Sports have reported that French outfit Marseille have held talks with the Bhoys about a potential deal for the 21-year-old.

It is understood that Celtic want a fee of £20million for his signature and want to wait until after their last Champions League qualifier.

Spurs must enter the race to sign Dembele as he could turn out to be an incredible bargain at £20million.

The young Frenchman nearly moved to White Hart Lane back in 2016, but instead left Fulham last summer to join Scottish giants Celtic.

He enjoyed a superb first season under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers and scored a stunning 32 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions.

His reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers is growing and Spurs now need to add him to their talented young squad.

Dembele’s performances in the Champions League with three goals suggests he is ready to perform at a high level and Mauricio Pochettino has always shown a willingness to promote young stars.

Spurs’ need for a new striker should also force their hand as Harry Kane remains their only reliable option, with the poor first season of Vincent Janssen last year a major concern.

The north London club are desperate to end their recent drought for silverware and having three recognised senior options up front would be a good choice.

Pochettino’s side are still yet to make any signings in the summer and it is now beginning to worry supporters, but they should signal their intent of another title challenge by capturing Celtic’s talisman.

Dembele has not yet proven himself in the Premier League, but continues to make the step up wherever he goes and his huge potential makes him irresistible at £20million.
