Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has said that he believes new signing Jonny Hayes will make a “big contribution” to the club after his impressive display against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday.

The Hoops managed to secure a staggering 9-0 victory away at the Tallaght Stadium on Saturday, marking an end to their pre-season fixtures.

New signing Jonny Hayes made it onto the scoresheet for the first time during a friendly match against the Irish club, after he netted a goal for the Bhoys in the 81st minute.

The domestic treble winning manager told Celtic TV that he was impressed with the 30-year-old’s impact at the club already and was quoted on the Hoops’ official website: “When you are an attacking player and come to your new club, it’s important to get off the mark early.”

Rodgers also told Celtic TV how well the former Aberdeen midfielder had settled in at Parkhead and said that he will make a key contribution to the Bhoys squad: “He has settled in very well off the field. He is a good guy, a mature guy, and he has mixed in really well over the last couple of weeks.

“We don’t need to rush him but he’s going to make a big contribution to the squad,” he was quoted as saying on the Celtic website.

Hayes was signed last month from fellow Scottish Premier League club Aberdeen in a three-year-deal, and made his debut for Celtic during a friendly against Austrian side BW Linz at the end of June.

Rodgers has made just two signings so far during the current transfer window as, in addition to Jonny Hayes, the Hoops boss has also secured Ipswich Town midfielder Kundai Benyu on a free transfer.
