Celtic are the second favourites to sign Hibernian midfield kingpin John McGinn this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the Scottish giants at 2/1 on Saturday evening to land the central midfielder, 22, before the transfer window shuts in early September.

But Celtic lag behind English Championship club Ipswich Town (6/4) in the betting race for McGinn’s signature, while close rivals Rangers are 8/1 and Aberdeen are 12/1.

Thee have been reports that Parkhead manager Brendan Rodgers is willing to pay £1.5million offer for McGinn in an attempt to beat English clubs to his signature.

McGinn spearheaded Hibernian’s return to the Scottish Premiership with his outstanding displays last season, in which he scored five goals and 10 assists from 37 matches during their romp to the Championship title.

The performances of the three-times Scotland international have attracted covetous glances from south of the border, with Ipswich seemingly in the driving seat for his signature.

Glasgow-born McGinn joined Hibs from St Mirren in the summer of 2015 and signed a four-year contract that expires in the summer of 2019.

Celtic already have a strong midfield containing the likes of Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor, but Rodgers may view McGinn as a player capable of challenging for a first-team spot.

Armstrong’s future is also up in the air after he has snubbed new contract offers from the club.
