Wolves are close to signing Cambridge goalkeeper Will Norris following the confirmation of free agent John Ruddy, according to reliable journalist Tim Spiers.

The Express and Star correspondent wrote on his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon that the club were closing in on the 23-year-old, who starred between the sticks for the League Two outfit last season.

The signing of Norris would follow England international goalkeeper Ruddy joining the club after he was announced earlier on Monday morning by the club’s official Twitter account and website .

Both the official signing and the report follow the sad news that club stalwart Carl Ikeme had been diagnosed with Leukaemia during pre-season testing.

Norris himself has shown his ability in the Football League after emerging through the non-leagues with each of Hatfield, Royston and Braintree respectively.

For the U’s he has managed to play 93 times times during his five years at the club, keeping 27 clean sheets while conceding on 100 occasions.

Last season alone he impressed watchers by keeping 13 clean sheets in 45 matches for Cambridge who finished in 11th place in England’s fourth tier.

Wolves, meanwhile, have shown their aspirations for the new campaign by bringing in the likes of Ruben Neves and Ruddy and they may now see Norris as a future number one.
