West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang has agreed a new deal which will see him contracted to the club for the next five years, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the deal was agreed last night (Wednesday) and the club are hoping to reveal the news of the midfield enforcer’s deal later today.

It comes just weeks after the Mirror reported that the Hammers and the 25-year-old had opened contract talks, in a bid to ward off interest from the likes of Premier League rivals Everton and Italian giants AC Milan.

They also reported that the club valued Obiang at around £15million, although that value is likely to soar as a result of this new deal, with his current contract set to expire in two years time in 2019.

Able to operate as both a central and a defensive midfielder, Obiang has made 60 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers since signing from Italian side Sampdoria in a £4.3million back in 2015.

He managed to make just 22 Premier League appearances last season as an ankle injury ruled him out of the final nine fixtures, but Slaven Bilic will be confident that he will have the former-Spanish U21 international available come the start of the upcoming campaign.

However, Obiang will not be guaranteed a role in the first team, and he will have to fight it out with the likes of Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate for a place in the starting XI.
