West Ham United are hopeful of wrapping up a sensational move to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez “within next seven days”, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solkehol claimed on his official Twitter account on Tuesday morning that the Hammers could potentially complete a deal for the 29-year-old goal machine in the coming week.

This comes after TalkSPORT reporter and and commentator Abrahams revealed on his personal Twitter account that the East London club were still confident of securing the Mexican’s signature this summer.

West Ham will be hopeful that they can sign Hernandez before the start of the new campaign as they struggled to find themselves on the scoresheet last season, with attacking midfielder Michail Antonio finishing as the club’s top goalscorer with nine goals in all competitions.

Hernandez proved himself to be a clinical striker in the Premier League during his five-year spell with Manchester United.

The striker enjoyed great success at Old Trafford, playing a crucial role in helping United secure two Premier League titles under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Mexico international managed to score 37 goals in over 100 English top flight appearances and he managed to earn a reputation as being a super-substitute.

Hernandez has also managed to notch goals in Germany, scoring a total of 28 goals in 54 appearances in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen during his two years at the club.

The striker is also the all-time leading goalscorer for the Mexico national team with 48 goals to his name.

Hernandez currently has one more year remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
