Barcelona and Copenhagen drop-outs on trial with West Ham

|

West Ham confirmed that a duo of free agents have headed to the London club for trials after being released by two European giants.

The Hammers announced on their official website that Oriol Rey and Julian Kristoffersen had been used as trialists in the Under-23 side’s 2-1 friendly loss to Barnet at The Hive on Saturday.

Rey, 19, left Spanish titans Barcelona after reaching the end of his contract without ever making an appearance for the club.

The Spaniard primarily plays as a centre-back, but can also feature on the left side of a back four or in a defensive midfield role.

He came off the bench at half-time in the Hammers’ development squad, which is managed by Terry Westley.

Norwegian striker Kristoffersen, 20, has recently been released by reigning Danish champions FC Copenhagen and, unlike Rey, has a bit of senior football to his name having made four appearances for the first-team, scoring two goals in the process.

His name may be familiar to the youth set-up at Leicester, after he found the net against them in a UEFA Youth League clash in the East Midlands last November, which the Dane’s won 3-2.

The young forward was also named on the bench in Copenhagen’s Europa League knock-out round loss to Ajax in March.

Kristoffersen started the match against Barnet, but was substituted off in the 67th minute.
