The agent of Newcastle attacker Siem de Jong has asserted that he is keeping his options open about his client potentially making a transfer away from St. James’ Park.

The attacking midfielder was shipped out on loan to PSV last season after struggling to make an impression with the Magpies following his signing from Ajax in 2014.

Rafa Benitez appears to have struggled in the transfer marker so far, and has only managed to bring in two new players this summer with Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu penning permanent deals.

Although none of them play in similar roles to de Jong, his agent Louis Laros has made it clear that he is not sure what the future might hold for his client at St. James’ Park.

When asked by Dutch news outlet Voetbal International about a potential move away from Newcastle in the future, Laros said: “We obviously take account of that scenario and therefore continuously collect options.

“Those options are there now, Siem is regularly informed. But any transfer is not easy. You have to deal with his salary, the asking price and the prospect of another club.”

De Jong, 28, has only made 26 appearances in three years on Tyneside, but that hasn’t stopped Laros from suggesting that the attacking midfielder might still have a future role to play at the Premier League club.

“Newcastle have not bought a lot of new players, so I expect that there still will be some players in the near future. The club always works. Then wait and see if there is the prospect for Siem. He has never really worked under Benitez, so he must now try to take his chance,” Laros added.

The six-times Netherlands international was in good form for PSV last season despite spending a short spell playing for their Under-21 squad.

He made 23 appearances and scored six goals across all competitions in his loan spell as he even managed to find the net against his former employers and Dutch giants Ajax in a 1-1 draw.
