Lukaku ‘half a notch’ away from Kane

Dion Dublin has claimed that Manchester United new boy Romelu Lukaku is the second best striker in the Premier League behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

The England forward finished as the top scorer in last season’s Premier League campaign with an impressive 29 strikes, four ahead of the big Belgian at Everton.

They have both shown great form over the past couple of seasons, Kane having hit over 20 league goals in each of the last three, while Lukaku struck 15 times in the top flight during his debut campaign while on loan at the Toffees back in 2013/14.

Former Manchester United and Aston Villa forward Dublin believes that Lukaku has the most potential in the Premier League, despite being a year older than Kane, who he says is the best striker in the top flight.

He told talkSPORT: “I believe Lukaku is the biggest prospect in the Premier League, and can get better – a lot better.

“I don’t think there’s a box he doesn’t tick.

“Harry Kane, for me, ticks every single box. Lukaku is maybe just half a notch off.”

Lukaku hit 87 goals in 166 appearances for Everton, enough to convince Manchester United to part with up to a reported £90million to secure his signature this summer.

He signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils, with the club inserting an optional clause of a sixth year.

Kane meanwhile has made 160 appearances, six less than the Belgian, but has managed to hit 102 goals, which would back up Dublin’s assessment of who is currently the best striker in the league.

However, he believes that his move to United will help the player flourish and that he will be scoring goals at a similar rate to Kane.

“I think Mourinho will find a way to get the best out of Lukaku. Supply him and he will score goals,” Dublin told talkSPORT

“In a Man United shirt he’ll get more chances than at any other club in the Premier League, so now all he’s got to do is get his numbers up and he’ll be one of the best in the world.”

United are currently in Los Angeles for their pre-season preparations, playing a series of fixtures including the likes of LA Galaxy, Barcelona, local rivals Manchester City and Champions League holders Real Madrid, before kicking their Premier League season off with a home clash against West Ham on August 13.
