Everton would finally give Romelu Lukaku top-class competition in the final third by making an eleventh hour move for Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez.

The Sun claims the Baggies are closing in on a £12million deal with the Baggies for the versatile striker, after the 27-year-old returning from a long-term injury to find himself way down the pecking order on the south coast.

Charlie Austin, Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long are all considered above the England international in the pecking order at St. Mary’s Stadium and may now be forced out of the club in search of first-team football.

With two years remaining on his current contract, Rodriguez could be set to jump ship rather than looking to win his place back under new Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

This Is Futbol considers three reasons why the former Burnley forward would bring the best out of Lukaku by giving the Belgium international competition as well as replacing him to the required standard if needed.
