Newcastle striker Armstrong set for Bolton loan

|

Newcastle academy product Adam Armstrong is set to join Bolton on a season-long loan deal, according to HITC.

The news outlet claims that the 20-year-old striker will be leaving St. James’ Park on temporary terms for a third time in a row this summer following previous stints with Coventry and Barnsley.

It is understood that a number of clubs in the English Football League had been in the hunt to sign Armstrong, but it is Championship newcomers Bolton that have beaten their rivals to the punch, having agreed a deal with the newly-promoted Magpies.

This comes after the Newcastle Chronicle reported in June that Bolton were not prepared to take the England Under-20 international as they couldn’t afford his wage contributions.

However in a transfer twist, the Trotters appear to have worked out a deal with Newcastle to sort out the financial aspects of the deal.

Armstrong spent last season on loan with Barnsley in the Championship, but he would probably have been disappointed with his goal scoring tally after netting just six times in 35 appearances for the Tykes, despite regularly finding a spot in the starting line-up.

He is yet to score a senior goal for Newcastle having already played 21 times for the first-team, and it clearly seems that Rafa Benitez isn’t willing to use him in his Magpies squad as they venture back into the Premier League.
