Newcastle have entered the race to sign Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that manager Rafa Benitez has enquired about the availability of the 30-year-old as the Spaniard looks to add more depth to his squad as they return to the Premier League next season.

It is said that Benitez believes that Huddlestone’s top flight experience will be key to his side and he is looking to play him alongside former Hull teammate Mohamed Diame.

The report claims the midfielder is free to leave Hull for just £2million due to a clause in his contract following the club’s relegation to the Championship last season.

The Sun reports that the Magpies will face competition to secure the signature of the midfielder, who is renowned as one of the best passers around, as fellow Premier League side West Bromwich Albion are also interested.

Newcastle fans will no doubt be delighted about the news as the club has not been very active in the transfer market so far, reportedly missing out on bringing Tammy Abraham and Willy Caballero to St James’ Park this summer.

Huddlestone was a first-team regular for the Tigers last season, featuring in 39 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

The midfielder has enjoyed an impressive career, making over 200 appearances in the Premier League.

Huddlestone’s current contract at the KCOM Stadium runs out at the end of next season.
