Newcastle have made a move for Hull City midfielder Sam Clucas this summer with a host of top flight sides in the hunt, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies are going head-to-head with West Brom, Burnley and Leicester, with the quartet all said to have been in touch with the Tigers over his availability.

The Mail report that the recently relegated side are looking for up to £10million for the 26-year-old’s signature, and that Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle have been keeping an eye on him since the beginning of the year.

Clucas, who was awarded Hull’s player of the year for last season, is a versatile midfielder who can play on either flank, in an attacking position or even in a holding role in the centre of the park.

Last season saw him miss just one of his side’s Premier League matches, through suspension, as he made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and picking up a solitary assist.

He has worked his way through the leagues of English football, having played for the likes of Chesterfield FC and Mansfield Town before joining the Tigers in the summer of 2015, and has gone on to make 93 appearances for the Yorkshire side.

He is contracted at the KCOM Stadium until 2019, but will likely be open to a move to remain in the top flight following his side’s drop to the second tier.
