Newcastle confirm Armstrong interest

Newcastle have confirmed that a host of clubs are interested in signing forward Adam Armstrong on loan this summer.

The Magpies announced on their official website on Sunday that the 20-year-old had not been named as part of the 27-man squad that has travelled to the Republic of Ireland for a training camp.

News outlet HITC has recently reported that Armstrong is set to join Championship newcomers Bolton on a season-long loan after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.

The Newcastle Chronicle had reported in June that Bolton were unable to sign the England Under-20 international because they couldn’t afford his wage contributions, but that issue now appears to have been ironed out.

Armstrong is no stranger to being sent out on loan, having a spell at Coventry before spending last season with Barnsley.

He wasn’t exactly prolific in his stint at Oakwell, as he scored just six times in 35 appearances for the Yorkshire club, even though he regularly had a spot in Paul Heckingbottom’s starting line-up.

The Magpies academy product is yet to score a senior goal for the Tynesiders having already played 21 times for the first-team.

Sunday’s announcement confirms that Rafa Benitez isn’t willing to utilise Armstrong in his Magpies squad in the Premier League next season.

Emmanuel Riviere and Achraf Lazaar and Tim Krul were also left out of the training camp squad.
