Middlesborough have joined local rivals Newcastle United in the race to sign Liverpool forward Sheyi Ojo, according to the Times.

This comes after Newcastle Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder recently claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Magpies were holding negotiations with the Merseyside club over a potential summer move for the 20-year-old.

The newspaper claims that the Championship side are keen on landing the wide forward on a loan deal next season.

The report claims that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants the youngster to get more minutes under his belt as he is unlikely to feature much with the first-team next season.

It is said that Klopp is willing to accept a temporary move away for the forward and new Middlesborough boss Garry Monk is prepared to offer the youngster regular first-team action in the Championship.

The Times reports that the German has a fine relationship with both Monk and Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez but Klopp wants to be assured that Ojo will experience more minutes on the pitch in the upcoming campaign.

Ojo only managed to feature in the FA Cup ties against Wolves and Plymouth Argyle for Liverpool last season.

The youngster was also part of the England Under-20 national team that won the World Cup tournament in South Korea this summer.

Ojo currently has three years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
