Newcastle could be set to offload striker Emmanuel Riviere with FC Metz eyeing up a move, according to L’Equipe.

The French football newspaper claim on their website that the Ligue 1 side are looking to improve their front line and view the forward as a potential option, with him having just a year left on his contract.

Newcastle fans would be delighted to see the back of Riviere this summer, with the striker widely considered to be a huge flop at the club.

He has scored just three goals since arriving from Monaco in 2014, only one of which was in the Premier League despite his 26 appearances in England’s top flight.

His other two goals came in the League Cup, and he was shipped out on loan to Spanish side Osasuna last season.

However, he was unable to rediscover the form he displayed at Monaco which saw him outscore the likes of Rademel Falcao and James Rodriguez, as he failed to find the back of the net in 17 appearances for the La Liga team, providing just a solitary assist.

A muscle injury ruled him out of his loan side’s final fixtures, and he has now returned to Newcastle for pre-season training, although Rafael Benitez will be likely be looking to secure a deal to see him out of the club as soon as possible.
