Newcastle United will need to splash the cash and pay Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon £53million in order to land striker Bas Dost this summer, according to A Bola.

The same newspaper recently reported that the newly-promoted Premier League side had made an offer around £35million for the 28-year-old but it was rejected by the Portuguese outfit.

It is said that the Dost has a release clause worth £53million and the Magpies have reportedly cooled their interest in the centre-forward as they are not willing to spend that amount of money on a single player this summer.

The Dutchman is not the only attacking player being linked with a move to St James’ Park next season as the Evening Standard recently reported that the Tyneside club are considering a move for AC Milan winger M’Baye Niang.

Newcastle will need to produce the goods up front if they want to survive in the Premier League next season as they only notched up 44 goals when they last competed in the top tier of English football.

Dost enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign in Portugal last season, contributing with 36 goals and six assists in all competitions.

The striker also has experience on the international stage, making a total of 15 appearances for the Netherlands national team.

Dost’s current contract at Sporting expires in 2020.
