Manchester United have been dealt a blow as their £70million offer for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata has been rejected, according to a report in Goal.

The football site claim that Jose Mourinho’s side have upped their bid for the Spain international, 24, from £60.5million to £70.2million.

But Goal report that the La Liga club are holding out for a fee of £79 million for the player United regard as their priority target in this summer’s transfer window.

It is said that the United manager has been in lengthy talks with with Real Madrid over the signing of Morata and wants to bag the forward ahead of the club’s United States pre-season tour next week.

The centre-forward does not want to participate in the La Liga outfit’s pre-season training as he is keen on joining the Premier League club.

Mourinho has made Morata his first choice striker target and is set on signing the star to bolster the Red Devils’ striking credentials ready for their 2017/18 campaign.

The Spaniard joined Real Madrid from Italian club Juventus last summer in a deal worth £25.5million, and his worth looks to have tripled in price.

Throughout his first season with the La Liga club he has impressed after he netted 20 goals and provided a further six assists throughout 43 appearances across all competitions.

Mourinho will be looking to make more of an impact during the transfer window as the United boss has made just one signing so far, after he secured defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica for nearly £30 million.
