Manchester United are set to reach an agreement with La Liga champions Real Madrid for striker Alvaro Morata in the next 72 hours, according to AS.

The Spanish newspaper claims that the two clubs managed to ease the tension concerning negotiations over the weekend and it appears that a deal for the 24-year-old is set to be completed this week.

The report claims Real Madrid president Florentino Perez did not want negotiate with the Manchester club until he was able to resolve the matter concerning star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now likely to stay at the Bernabeu amid reports that he was unhappy.

It is said that United made an offer worth around £60million for Morata on 23 June but it was declined by the La Liga giants.

However, it is reported that the giant clubs are edging closer to an acceptable deal for both parties and AS claims that United are likely to complete the signing of Morata in “a matter of days”.

United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly urging the club to seal the deal before the team start their pre-season tour with the Manchester club set to fly out to the United States on July 9.

Morata looks set to become the second summer arrival at Old Trafford after United signed defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

The Spaniard finished last season as Madrid’s second joint top goalscorer, notching up 19 goals in all competitions.

Morata’s current contract at the Bernabeu expires in 2021.
