Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has contacted Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic over a potential summer move to Old Trafford, according to Don Balon.

This follows up from the story in the same publication which reported that the Portuguese manager was keen on signing the 23-year-old this summer.

The Spanish outlet claims that the United boss has tabled an offer in which he has proposed to double the Croatian’s salary in order to lure him to the Premier League next season.

It is also reported that French outfit Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Kovacic as they see him as a suitable replacement for Marco Verratti who is being heavily linked with a move away from France.

The report claims that the midfielder has informed the La Liga champions about the offer and Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is adamant that the Croatian will not be leaving the Bernabeu this summer.

The Croatian managed to enjoy much more game time with the Spanish giants last season, featuring in 39 matches in all competitions.

The midfielder contributed with two goals and three assists throughout the campaign.

Kovacic has also proved that he is capable of delivering the goods on the international stage, making a total of 34 appearances for the Croatia national team.

The midfielder has four years remaining on his current contract with Madrid.
