Conte tearing hair out at Lukaku transfer to United

Antonio Conte is set to go into meltdown at the prospect of Chelsea losing out to Manchester United over the signing of Romelu Lukaku, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

The famously passionate Italian has urged the Premier League champions to sign Lukaku from Everton this summer as he prepares to reshape the strike force that won the team the title in his first season.

But it has emerged in the last 48 hours that Lukaku has agreed to join United for a fee worth between £75million and £90million and has already started a medical at the club.

Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solkehol reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon that Conte is “increasingly frustrated” at the possibility of the Belgium international signing for another club and “will not take it well” if he joins United.

Conte became renowned for his touchline histrionics during a remarkable debut campaign as a Premier League manager in which Chelsea stormed to the title despite finishing ninth 12 months earlier.

With Diego Costa told he is surplus to requirements and can find a new club, the manager is keen for a proven striker to be secured to spearhead the attack next season.

It appears that man will almost certainly not be Lukaku, who spent three years at Chelsea but was sold to Everton for £28million in 2014.

The Sun report he underwent the first stage of a United medical on  Thursday night at the UCLA campus in Los Angeles on the west coast of the United States after the Manchester club stole in ahead of their title rivals.

It is said that the Belgium international has agreed the terms of a five-year contract worth £250,000-a-week as he puts the finishing touches to a transfer that could now be sealed within days.

Lukaku has made a huge impression at Goodison Park over the last three years, notching up a total of 87 goals in all competitions and was the Premier League’s second top scorer with 25 goals last season.
