Manchester City offered Napoli a £2.6 million fee for former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, according to a recent report in The Mirror.
The newspaper revealed on their website that the Serie A outfit rejected Pep Guardiola’s bid for the stopper, 34, as the club are looking for an offer closer to £4.5 million instead.
The Mirror claim that just another £1.9million will be enough to seal the deal for a player who is proven in the Premier League and has considerable experience at the highest level.
Guardiola is keen to sign the former Premier League goalkeeper as a replacement for Claudio Bravo, who looks to depart from the Etihad this summer.
Manchester City has seen a number of changes surrounding their goalkeeping options this summer after Guardiola signed Benfica stopper Ederson for a fee of £35 million.
Ederson looks to take over as the City boss’ first choice keeper for the 2017/18 season putting both Claudio Bravo and Joe Hart’s regular playing spots in jeopardy.
Hart didn’t fly to the United States with the rest of the squad on their pre-season tour as instead he travelled to London to take part in a medical at West Ham, which was successful.
In addition to the senior keepers, fellow stopper Angus Gunn has rejoined Norwich City in a season-long loan deal away from the Etihad which further restricts Guardiola’s options.
The City boss has already made an impact in the current transfer window and has spent around £130million for far on Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, Monaco’s Bernardo Silva, Brazilian teenager Douglas Luiz and keeper Ederson.
