Former Liverpool winger Titi Camara has claimed on Twitter that he has been told that Naby Keita has his heart set on a move to Anfield this summer.

Camara, who is the former sports minister of Guinea and shares nationality with Keita, revealed that the midfielder has told his club RB Leipzig of his intention to make a sensational transfer to Anfield.

“From what I’m led to believe Naby has his heart set on Liverpool move,” Camara reported on his personal Twitter account. “Leipzig have been informed of his intent and are looking for a replacement.”

The revelation from Camara, 44, who is also the former manager of the Guinea national team, the president of one of the leading clubs and has top-level links in football in Keita’s homeland, is the strongest indication yet that the 22-year-old will be prised from the Bundesliga by Liverpool in the current window.

Reports at the weekend suggested the Merseyside giants are making significant progress in their pursuit of Keita, with a £130,000-a-week contract offered to the player following talks with manager Jurgen Klopp on Saturday.

Liverpool will be hugely encouraged that the midfield dynamo wants to make the move to Anfield after an outstanding season for Leipzig in which he was a prolific scorer and creator from central midfield.

The update from Camara, who was a cult hero during his 18 months at Liverpool from 1999 to December 2000, suggests significant headway is being made to get what is expected to be  a £50million-plus transfer over the line.
