Andy Robertson is seemingly closing in on a move to Liverpool after he left Hull City’s training camp in Portugal on Monday evening, according to a reliable journalist.

BBC Humberside morning show presenter David Burns claimed on his personal Twitter account late yesterday (Monday) that a source had told him Robertson and club colleague Mohamed Elmohamedy have departed the pre-season trip.

Speculation has intensified in recent days that the two players have moves lined up, with Robertson reportedly in advanced talks to join Liverpool and Elmohamedy seemingly headed to Aston Villa.

The Liverpool Echo claimed last weekend that the Merseyside giants are set to sign Robertson, 23, for a fee of £8million and there is a possibility that left winger Ryan Kent, 20, could go the other way and smooth the path for Robertson to become a Liverpool player, although the transfer is not dependent on it.

Liverpool have been in the market for a new left-back this summer after fielding midfielder James Milner in the position for the entirety of last season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to offload the erratic Spaniard Alberto Moreno and bring in a recognised left-back who can slot into the position for years to come.

Scotland international Robertson has spent the last three years at Hull and has developed into an accomplished player on the left side of defence.

He would become Liverpool’s third signing of the summer following Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah through the door at Anfield.

Liverpool have also been heavily linked with moves for Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk this summer but have been knocked back on numerous occasions by RB Leipzig and Southampton respectively.

Klopp has asked for calm from Liverpool fans who have aired their frustration over a lack of transfer deals as opposed to their rivals, particularly Everton, who sealed their seventh major summer signing in Cuco Martina on Monday evening.
