Everton are at the head of a Premier League queue to secure the signing of Sheffield United’s David Brooks, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on the live transfer blog on their website (15:00) that the Toffees are among a host of top flight clubs interested in snapping up the diminutive 20-year-old after he impressed on international duty for the England Under-20s.

The attacking midfielder was named player of the tournament at the Toulon Tournament earlier this summer, scoring in the final as the young lions secured a second successive victory in the competition with a penalty shootout victory over the Ivory Coast.

A former Manchester City youngster, he is able to play centrally or on either flank, but the Sky Blues let him go after they judged he was too small, with United snapping him up.

Yet to make his league debut for the Blades, he has made four appearances in the EFL Trophy and the FA Cup, grabbing two assists.

His first taste of senior football came at National League side Halifax Town back in 2015, making five appearances during a month long loan spell, scoring a goal and an assist.

Brooks was reportedly set to move to League Two side Chesterfield on a loan spell, but the club pulled the plug on the move, and is said to have impressed during Sheffield United’s pre-season preparations.
