Former centre-back Jason Cundy has stated that he believes Marcus Rashford is better than Manchester United’s £90million new signing Romelu Lukaku.

Cundy, a former defender for Chelsea, Ipswich and Portsmouth, stated that if he had to choose between the two forwards, he would plump for 19-year-old Rashford.

The teenager climbed the ranks through the United youth academy before making a stunning debut against Arsenal where the forward netted two goals during a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford.

Since his first impressive appearance with the senior squad the centre-forward has become a key part of Jose Mourinho’s first team and last season made a total of 53 appearances where he scored 11 goals and provided a further six assists.

However, with the recent recruitment of Everton goal-machine Romelu Lukaku, it looks as though Rashford is facing a major battle for first-team action next season.

Cundy thinks otherwise and spoke recently about the United pair on Talksport’s ‘Sports Bar’ segment.

The former defender was quoted on Talksport’s official website, and said: “I think Rashford, actually, is better than Lukaku.

“Personally, if I had to play one man up top and I was a United fan, I would go [with] Rashford.”

Lukaku was named as Jose Mourinho’s most recent signing after the Everton forward made the move to Old Trafford in a £72 million deal.

The Belgian joins former Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, but Mourinho is yet to complete any more signings so far during the transfer window.

It was reported yesterday in The Sun that Mourinho had been handed £100 million to continue to bolster the current United squad, as the boss is currently eager to sign Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

In addition to the Milan ace, Mourinho is also currently keeping an eye on Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Roma’s Raidja Nainggolan.
