The availability of Mexcio and Bayer Leverkusen goal machine Javier Hernandez has piqued the interest of Newcastle this summer, according to the Chronicle.

The north east news outlet has detailed that the Magpies have been looking at the 29-year-old, who according to Bild is said to be valued at £13million by Leverkusen.

The low valuation has seen the likes of West Ham and Tottenham heavily linked with the player who helped Manchester United to two Premier League titles between the years of 2010 and 2015.

However, Newcastle, who have also been in the market for a new front man this summer have not yet been reported to be interested in a deal.

But, if they are going to pursue their interest in Hernandez then it is thought by the Chronicle that he may have to lower his high wage demands with a move for the Real Madrid man said to put him to the top of the highest-paid players in the Magpies’ squad.

There aren’t many better proven goalscorers available than Hernandez this summer and the striker showed his talents with the Red Devils in England by bagging 59 times in 158 encounters for the famous club.

Last season he managed 11 strikes in 26 Bundesliga matches, while for Mexcio he has scored a stunning 48 times in 96 appearances.

He is also now going into the final year of his contract at Leverkusen and a return to the Premier League could certainly be on the cards for him.
