La Liga side Athletic Bilbao are interested in signing Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal during the summer transfer window, according to Don Balon.
The Spanish outlet claims that the Basque club are looking for full-backs in the transfer market and they believe that the 31-year-old Gunner will be the dream capture for the upcoming campaign.
Arsenal have added a left-back to their squad this summer in Sead Kolasinac which could mean that Monreal might not be guaranteed regular first-team action next season.
The report also claims that the La Liga outfit are also keeping tabs on Chelsea defender Cesar Aspilicueta.
It is said that Athletic will not have much chance of signing the Spaniard this summer as the North London are not willing to let him leave the Emirates Stadium as they see him as an important member of the squad.
The defender has travelled with the Gunners on their pre-season tour to Australia and he is likely to feature in the first match against Sydney FC on Thursday evening.
The Spaniard has spent four years in North London and he has become the preferred choice in the left-back position.
Monreal featured in 43 matches in all competitions last season and he contributed with three assists.
The defender’s only goal of the campaign came in the 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
The Spaniard’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out in 2019.
