Serie A club Sampdoria are set to launch a bid of £9million for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper revealed on their website that the Italian club are hoping to bring the 25-year-old to the Serie A side this summer.

The Daily Mail claim that although Sampdoria are keen to recruit the Arsenal midfielder, they are concerned that their potential £9million bid won’t match up to Arsene Wenger’s asking price.

It is said that the Serie A outfit have already enquired into to the availability of the playmaker, who is now on fringes of the Gunners team after once being at the forefront.

Wilshere climbed through the ranks at the Arsenal academy before he was permanently added to the first team in 2008.

Since moving up to the senior squad the England international has made a total of 160 appearances across all competitions, where he scored 12 goals and provided a further 24 assists.

However, over the past few seasons the playmaker has been struck by a number of injuries, and a crack in his calf bone saw him out for a majority of the 2015/16 season.

Because his fitness wasn’t up to the standards of the first team, Wilshere was loaned out to fellow Premier League side Bournemouth during the previous campaign.

The Englishman made 27 appearances for the Cherries before his time was cut short with yet another injury after he broke his leg which meant that the 25-year-old failed to join the rest of the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour to Australia.

Wilshere has now entered the final 12 months of his contract, and it would be likely that Wenger would want to sell up now rather than lose the England international for free next summer.
