Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain is incredibly unlikely to extend his stay with Arsenal, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The news outlet has revealed that the chances of the attacking midfielder, 23, signing a new deal with the Gunners is “virtually nil”, which means he is closer to a departure from the club.

Sky Sports claim that negotiations surrounding the playmaker’s future with the club have become deadlocked, and the Arsenal boss has no plans for fresh talks with the star.

It is said that Oxlade-Chamberlain has grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress with his contract negotiations.

The England international is set to enter the last 12 months of his contract and looks unlikely to extend his stay, despite jetting off with the rest of the squad for a pre-season tour to Sydney yesterday.

The report follows a recent story in the Daily Star which contradicted this claim as it stated that Arsenal had no intentions of selling Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, particularly to Liverpool.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Emirates from Southampton at the age of 16 back in 2011 in a deal worth nearly £12 million, but the midfielder has struggled to become a permanent addition to the first team squad.

The 23-year-old has be used in a number of different positions by Arsene Wenger since joining, and last season he played in eight different roles.

The Englishman made 45 appearances for the club last season, and featured in all midfield positions, in addition to both wing roles and even played as right-back during the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United earlier in the campaign.
