Olympique Lyon advisor Gerard Houllier has said that striker Alexandre Lacazette is like Arsenal legend Ian Wright, during an interview with TalkSPORT.

This follows a report from the BBC Sport on Tuesday which revealed that the 26-year-old had taken part in a medical at Arsenal’s training ground, and was close to finalising a deal worth £52 million with add-ons.

The former Liverpool boss has acted as an advisor to the Ligue 1 club throughout the negotations with Arsene Wenger, and is incredibly familiar with the Frenchman’s style of play.

Houllier gave his verdict on Arsenal’s new potential signing during an interview with Jim White on TalkSPORT and has said that Lacazette’s main asset to the club will be goals and that he isn’t surprised that Wenger was interested in the striker.

The former France manager was quoted on TalkSPORT‘s official website as saying: “He scores more than 25 goals every season. One thing he will bring to Arsenal is goals. His main asset is to score goals.

“He has good technique, is good at using short spaces and is a hard-working player. He can attack, he can defend quickly. I’m not surprised Arsene fancied him.”

The ex-Lyon boss revealed that the 26-year-old will fit in well at the Emirates and reminds him of a former Arsenal striker.

During the interview with TalkSPORT Houllier said: “He will fit in their game. He will suit their passing game, the way they build up, their approach. He is very good near the box.

“He is a bit like Ian Wright really. You don’t seem to see him and then suddenly he moves.”

Lacazette has ripped it up in recent years at Lyon, and last season he was Ligue 1’s second highest goalscorer after he netted 28 goals in just 30 appearances throughout the competition.

The goal-machines scoring capabilities will be needed at Arsenal next season as the club aim to improve on their fifth place Premier League finish in order to win back their Champions League spot.
