Thomas Christiansen has shared his delight at Leeds United securing the signing of Vurnon Anita from Newcastle United.

Christiansen told Sky Sports that the Holland international is a “good player” with the versatility and experience to be a huge asset in his side’s promotion bid.

Leeds secured the shock signing of Anita, 28, on Thursday night on the same day as they unveiled their new kit for the 2017-18 season.

The Dutchman, who can play in either central midfield or at full-back, has signed a three-year contract after being snapped up following the expiry of his Newcastle contract.

New manager Christiansen is keen for Anita to replicate the success he had last season, when he was an integral part of the Newcastle side that secure promotion back to the Premier League.

“Everyone knows him, he’s a good player,” Christiansen told Sky Sports. “He can play in different positions, he has the skill, the right attitude, the experience.

“Also, the promotion he got with Newcastle, that’s something we want from him, and I’m very happy to have him.”

Anita has become Leeds’ sixth new signing of the summer, following goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald and midfield duo Mateusz Klich and Madger Gomes, while Pontus Jansson and Hadi Sacko have converted their 2016-17 loans into permanent transfers.

One report suggested last Friday that Leeds will sign around 10 new players this summer, including Sacko and Pontus Jansson, who both spent the entirety of last season at the club.
