Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has said he does not know what the future holds for him but insists he will be fighting for a place in the team during pre-season.

The powerful forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, with West Ham originally said to be interested in his signing before Everton were named as a potential destination for the 30-year-old by the Telegraph.

However, the Mirror have reported that the Gunners will look to secure at least £30million for his services, with manager Arsene Wenger reluctant to let him depart despite the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.

Now, the 64-time-capped French international has spoken out about his future at the club, stating that he is relishing the added competition in the form of his international counterpart, and that he will do his utmost to make sure he is prepared for the upcoming season.

However he was reluctant to fully commit to the club, instead stating that he was as unaware about his future as anybody else.

In an interview with Sky Sports News HQ, available on their website, he said: “I don’t know about my future so I can’t tell you more. I’m focused on my pre-season.

“At the moment I’m still an Arsenal player so I’ll try to be professional like always and prepare well for next season.

“Obviously there will be more competition, even more than last year.

“I’ve been through some difficulties these last years but always succeeded to bounce back, but this one I don’t know.”

Giroud made 40 appearances for the club last season, the majority coming off the substitutes bench, as he managed to score 16 goals and provide seven assists.

During his five-year Arsenal career, he has turned out 227 times, hitting home 98 goals across all competitions since arriving from Montpellier in 2012.
