Jota staying at Brentford

Brentford’s chief executive Mark Devlin has made it clear that Jota will be back in pre-season training with his club in July.

Sky Sports reported earlier that the 26-year-old is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, West Ham and Everton.

It is said the Championship side value their player at £8million and they are well aware that he has ambitions of playing in the top-flight.

The former La Liga player has one year left to run on his current deal at Griffin Park and he was a standout performer for the London club last season.

Despite the interest surrounding the Spaniard, Devlin assured supporters that he will be returning to the club next month.

“As far as we are concerned, Jota will be playing his football at Griffin Park next season,” Devlin told Sky Sports, as quoted by their transfer blog on Wednesday afternoon (14: 44pm).

“There will be lots of conjecture about players from all clubs, particularly those that performed well last year. Jota came back into the side in January and was fantastic for the final few months of the season.

“It’s no surprise he’s been catching the eye but Jota and the rest of the squad will be back in pre-season in July.”

The Sky Sports blog re-iterated the interest from the three Premier League clubs.

Playmaker Jota joined Brentford during the January transfer window from Spanish side Eibar and he instantly produced the goods for the club.

From his 21 matches in the second tier of English football, he scored 12 goals and supplied five assists for his teammates.

Newcastle went on to win the Championship, whilst Everton and West Ham had contrasting seasons in the top tier of English football.

The Toffees finished in the top-seven, but Slaven Bilic’s team struggled to perform following their move to the London Stadium and they had to settle for a bottom half finish.
