Wolves are weighing up a summer swoop for Preston North End ace Jordan Hugill, according to an Express and Star report.

The regional newspaper claims former Wanderers manager Paul Lambert was interested in the 25-year-old striker, but the player is still open to a move to the Black Country.

It is said Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has several other transfer targets, but Hugill is still an option if other moves fail to come to fruition.

The English front man was a regular in Preston’s forward line last term, scoring 12 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.

He arrived at Deepdale in the summer of 2014 from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee, and he has since played 85 league and cup games for the club, which have yielded 20 goals and four assists.

The Middlesbrough-born front man began his professional career at Vale in 2013, after spending five seasons on the non-league circuit plying his trade at the likes of Consett AFC, Whitby Town and Marske United.

Wolves finished in a disappointing 15th-place in last season’s Championship, a result which ultimately meant Lambert was sacked.

Santo will be looking to strengthen his squad this summer, ahead of a campaign in which he will hope to guide Wolves into the play-off places or even beyond.
