French side Lyon have entered the race to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud this summer, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims that the Ligue 1 club enquired about the availability of the 30-year-old striker whilst holding talks with Arsenal over the possible sale of talisman Alexandre Lacazette.

This comes after French outlet RMC Sport reported that the North London club are in advanced talks to sign the Lyon forward this summer after placing a £44million bid on the table.

The Times report that Lyon will face competition from Premier League side West Ham who are also keen on signing Giroud.

Goal recently reported that the Hammers are prepared to spend £20million in order to acquire Giroud’s service for the upcoming campaign.

Giroud has already proven his worth in the top tier of French football as he won the Ligue 1 title with outsiders Montpellier during the 2011-12 season, scoring 21 goals and providing 12 assists in the league.

The France international signed for Arsenal the following season and he has since enjoyed success in England, picking up three FA Cup trophies in the process.

The striker was mainly used an impact substitute last season but he still managed to contribute with 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions.

Giroud’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in 2019.
