Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a deal to sign Konyaspor full-back Barry Douglas, it has been confirmed.

The Championship club announced on their official Twitter account on Friday evening that they had agreed a deal “in principle” to sign the 27-year-old defender this summer.

The Mirror had earlier claimed in their live transfer blog on Tuesday that Wolves were prepared to rival Scottish treble-winners Celtic in the hunt for the Turkish-based player.

But the Midlands club have now confirmed that talks between themselves and top-flight outfit Konyaspor are already well underway, and that a positive conclusion to negotiations could soon be reached.

Douglas made 31 appearances in all competitions for Konyaspor during the 2016-17 season, having moved to the club from Lech Poznan in January 2016, and is under contract until the summer of 2019.

He has also represented Scottish duo Queens Park and Dundee United, and appears destined for a return to the United Kingdom this summer, albeit south of the border.

Terms are still being ironed out between the two clubs, but the Mirror report claims that Douglas is valued at just £750,000, suggesting a potential deal could be achieved for a low-cost.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to put his own stamp on the first-team squad at the club over the coming months, as he prepares to improve upon a disappointing season in the Championship last term.

Santo replaced Paul Lambert in the managerial hotseat at Molineux a month ago.
