Tottenham want to re-sign defender Adam Smith from Bournemouth as the replacement for Kyle Walker, according to the Express.

The newspaper claim that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to recruit Smith, 26, as he prepares to overhaul his defence for next season.

The Express report that Bournemouth are braced for a fight to hang on to Smith, who was sold by Tottenham to the south coast club in 2014.

Tottenham are in the market for a new right-back as the prospect grows that Walker will quit this summer amid strong and sustained interest from Manchester City.

The report details that Pochettino has been impressed by the performances of Smith, 26, who has flourished in the last two seasons in the Premier League.

Former England Under-21 international Smith is an attack-minded full-back who has contributed five assists in the recently completed league campaign from 36 matches.

Smith his career at White Hart Lane and graduated from the youth ranks to make two senior appearances for the club but he failed to make the grade and, after loan spells at Bournemouth, MK Dons, Millwall, Torquay, Derby, Leeds United and Wycombe, completed a permanent move to the Cherries.

Smith has racked up 155 appearances during two spells at Bournemouth.

Kieran Trippier ended the season as Spurs’ first choice right-back after Walker lost form amid rampant speculation that he wanted to quit the club.
