Rangers are set to rival Brighton in the race to sign Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims the Premier League new boys are ready to offer Fulham £2million for the 28-year-old midfielder, but the Gers are also interested.

McDonald is under contract at Craven Cottage until 2019, although it is said he could opt for a move to Brighton in order to play in the English top-flight.

However, the 28-year-old could also be interested in a move to the Glasgow giants as it could boost his chances of earning a spot in the Scotland squad.

The Scottish central midfielder was a mainstay in the Cottagers’ engine room this season, making 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

He made the switch to Fulham last summer in a £1.3million move from Wolves, and he played a key part in the club’s sixth-place finish and subsequent play-off efforts.

McDonald is a 14-time Scotland Under-21 international, but he has never been capped by the senior team.

Rangers have already secured two signings this summer, bringing in vastly experienced centre-back Bruno Alves from Cagliari and snapping up combative midfielder Ryan Jack on a free from Aberdeen.

Gers manager Pedro Caixinha is keen to overhaul his squad this summer ahead of the 2017/18 campaign in which he hopes to challenge Celtic on all fronts.
