Preston North End are interested in signing Rangers duo James Tavernier and Rob Kiernan this summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is planning to overhaul his current squad this summer and he wants to offload 14 players.

Philippe Senderos, Jon Toral, Emerson Hyndman, Clint Hill and Joe Garner have already departed the SPL side during the summer transfer window.

The Championship club appear to have taken notice of the situation at Ibrox as they look to swoop for the defensive duo ahead of the upcoming season.

The Lancaster side reportedly tracked Kieran before he joined Rangers two years ago whilst it is understood that manager Simon Grayson has been a fan of Tavernier for a long time.

Preston will need to improve on their defensive record if they want to secure a place in the play-offs next year as they conceded a total of 63 league goals last season.

Tavernier was a first-team regular for Rangers last season, making a total of 44 appearances in all competitions and contributing with two goals and seven assists from the right-back position.

Kiernan did not enjoy as much time on the pitch as his teammate, making 31 appearances in all competitions last season.

Tavernier’s contract at Rangers expires in 2019 whilst Kiernan’s current deal runs out at the end of next season.
