The odds have tumbled on Middlesbrough winning the race to sign Leeds United striker Chris Wood, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the recently-relegated Premier League club at 4/1 on Wednesday evening to sign the 25-year-old this summer as the Wood betting market continued to change after the appointment of new Boro manager Garry Monk.

Earlier in the week, Boro were second favourites at 8/1 with Sky Bet to land the signature of Wood before the transfer window shuts on September 3.

Now, the odds have halved on the north-east club landing the Championship leading scorer for 2016-17, while previous favourites Huddersfield have drifted from 9/2 to 6/1.

The market has changed considerably after Monk was unveiled by Boro on Monday 17 days after handing in his resignation at Leeds.

He inspired Wood to the best season of his career in the recently completed domestic season, with the striker scoring 30 goals from 48 matches in all competitions.

The Sun have reported that the forward is a £20million target for a number of Premier League clubs, with seven top-tier outfits said to be interested in signing him earlier in the week.
